Establishing a Record of Medical Treatment

If you are asking yourself, "Should I seek medical treatment for my disability?" the answer is, YES - even if you do not expect a cure or an improvement in your condition.

One of the most important things anyone can do to enhance their chances of having a disability benefits claim approved is to have a record of regular medical treatment for their disabling condition or conditions.

We have often represented clients who are legitimately disabled, but whose applications for Social Security Disability (SSD) were denied before they came to us, because they had an insufficient record of medical treatment or none at all.

We encourage clients to get regular treatment by the appropriate medical professionals even if prior treatment did little or nothing to improve their condition. The goal, in many cases, is to establish a record of treatment that will help you get the disability benefits you deserve.

Building a Record and a Relationship

Regular treatment not only establishes a record of treatment, it helps establish a relationship with your doctor. When your physician knows you and your condition personally, he or she may be more willing to complete the medical evaluation forms required by the Social Security Administration.

Both the medical record and the personal relationship with your physician can help in the Social Security Disability (SSD) claims process.
